Karin van Arkel first studied dance and theatre at the art academies of Amsterdam and Utrecht. From 1995 she studied classical singing at the Royal Conservatory The Hague. Teachers (among others): Lenie van den Heuvel, Diane Forlano and Barbara Pearson. In 1999 she got a bachelor degree, and in 2001 a master degree at the Royal Conservatory. Already during her studies she performed in several opera productions, and sang the roles of Lady Billows in Albert Herring of Benjamin Britten (in a production of the New Opera Academy Amsterdam/The Hague), Dido in Dido and Aeneas of Henry Purcell, and
