There have been three previous theatres on this site:-
The Queen's Theatre, opened April 1705, in 1789 destroyed by fire.
The second theatre opened in March 1791, in December 1867, the theatre was yet again destroyed by fire.
Built again in 1869 later in 1892 demolished.
Finally Her Majesty's Theatre opened on 28 April 1897.
The theatre will change it's name to either Her Majesty's or His Majesty's Theatre depending on whether it is a Queen or a King on the British throne!
